New Holland TRANS 2811 – Transmission Control Module (TCU): Transmission Oil Temperature Hot

This code indicates that the transmission fluid has exceeded the safe operating temperature limit.

   Verify actual transmission oil temperature using a diagnostic tool or an infrared thermometer to rule out a false sensor reading.

   Check transmission fluid level and inspect for fluid contamination or breakdown.

   Inspect the cooling stack (radiators and oil coolers) for heavy dirt, debris, or airflow restriction.

   Inspect the viscous fan clutch or electric fan logic to ensure the cooling fan is engaging properly.

   Evaluate hydraulic and PTO load for excessive drag, stuck compensator valves, or PTO overload.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the transmission oil temperature sensor for intermittent shorts or open circuits.

   Clean the Cooling Stack

   Regardless of the sensor's condition, thoroughly clean the cooling stack. Separate the coolers if necessary to remove trapped agricultural debris.

   Locate the Sensor

   Locate the transmission oil temperature sensor on the transmission housing or valve block.

   Prepare for Fluid Loss

   Place a clean drain pan underneath the sensor location to catch any transmission fluid that escapes during removal.

   Remove the Sensor

   Disconnect the 2-terminal electrical connector from the sensor. Unthread the old sensor from the housing.

   Install the New Sensor

   Thread the new sensor (often a 3/8"-18 thread) into the port and tighten it to the OEM torque specification.

   Reconnect and Refill

   Reconnect the electrical harness. Check the transmission fluid dipstick/sight glass and top off the hydraulic/transmission fluid as needed to replace any lost oil.

   Clear Codes

   Use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the TRANS 2811 fault code from the Transmission Control Module. Run the machine under load to verify the temperature remains in the normal range.
