New Holland TRANS 2821 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU) / TRANS: System Pressure Low fault
Issue description
The hydraulic pressure within the transmission system has dropped below the acceptable operating threshold. This indicates a potential hydraulic pump failure, a system leak, or a faulty sensor reading.
Applies to these machines
13 machines- T8.xxx Series
- T7 Series
- T7.170
- T7.270
- T6 Series
- T6000 Series
- TM Series
- TM120
- TM190
- Magnum 235-340 (Series 4)
- Steiger
- Puma
- Maxxum
Check the cause
Verify the hydraulic/transmission oil level in the rear axle center casing (low fluid is a primary cause of pressure drop)
Inspect the transmission housing, hydraulic lines, and remote valves for visible fluid leaks
Check the transmission oil filters for restriction or heavy soiling that could starve the pump
Test the transmission pressure sensor/switch and its wiring harness for a short, open circuit, or failure
Use a manual pressure gauge to check the actual hydraulic pressure at the remote valves or transmission test ports to determine if the pump or regulating valve is failing
Repair steps
Replenish Fluid
If the transmission fluid is low, top it up to the manufacturer's specified level and retest the machine.
Service Filters
If the fluid is contaminated or filters are old, drain the fluid and replace the transmission oil filters.
Replace the Pressure Sensor
If manual pressure tests show healthy mechanical pressure but the TRANS module still reads low, the pressure switch/sensor is faulty. Unplug the harness, unthread the old sensor, install the new OEM sensor, and reconnect the harness.
Repair Leaks
Replace any blown O-rings, damaged hydraulic lines, or leaking seals discovered during the visual inspection.
Valve/Pump Overhaul
If mechanical pressure is genuinely low and fluid/filters are fine, adjust or replace the pressure regulating valve. If the pump has failed, the transmission hydraulic pump will need to be overhauled or replaced.
Clear Codes
Use the CNH EASY tool (or equivalent diagnostic scanner) to clear the TRANS 2821 fault code and test drive the tractor to ensure the code does not return.
