New Holland TRANS 2851 – TRANS: The Park Brake Driver has detected an over current or an open circuit condition.

The transmission controller is detecting an electrical fault—either a broken connection (open circuit) or a short/excessive power draw (over current)—in the circuit that supplies power to the park brake solenoid. A burnt-out solenoid coil is a very common culprit for this specific code.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the park brake solenoid for chafing, breaks, or melted insulation.

   Check the 2-pin connector at the solenoid for corrosion, moisture, or loose pins.

   Perform a coil resistance test on the solenoid using a multimeter (an 'OL' reading indicates a burnt-out coil, while near zero ohms indicates a dead short).

   Verify voltage supply by unplugging the connector, turning the key on, commanding the park brake, and checking for proper voltage from the transmission controller.

   Locate the Solenoid

   The park brake solenoid is located on the transmission control valve block, situated under the cab in the middle of the transmission.

   Gain Access

   Depending on your shop equipment, you have two primary ways to access the solenoid: Method A (Standard): Safely lift and support the tractor. Remove the left rear wheel(s) (both inner and outer duals if equipped) to gain direct access to the side of the transmission. Method B (Field Repair): Remove the cab air filter housing. This allows limited access from above, though the replacement will largely have to be done by feel.

   Disconnect the Harness

   Unplug the 2-pin electrical connector from the park brake solenoid.

   Remove the Solenoid

   Unbolt and remove the faulty park brake solenoid coil/cartridge from the valve block.

   Install the New Part

   Install the replacement solenoid and secure it.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical harness. Reinstall the cab air filter housing or the left rear wheels, torquing wheel nuts to OEM specifications.

   Clear Codes

   Connect a diagnostic tool to clear the TRANS 2851 fault code and test the park brake engagement/disengagement to ensure the wheels do not lock up during operation.
