New Holland TRANS 2900 – Transmission Control Module (TRANS): Torque sensor Gap is on the larger end of the tolerance (CCH Only)

The physical air gap between the non-contact torque sensor and its target (the ferromagnetic shaft or gear it monitors) has exceeded the maximum allowable limit. When the gap is too large, the sensor cannot accurately read the magnetic property changes, which disrupts transmission load management and shifting.

   Check for related torque sensor codes (TRANS 2901, 2902, 2903) that might indicate a different root cause

   Verify the sensor is receiving its required 5V reference circuit (ensure it is not dropping below 4.8V)

   Inspect the sensor's mounting on the transmission housing to see if it has backed out, if the bracket is bent, or if debris is interfering with the tip

   Locate the Sensor

   Locate the torque sensor (often referred to as the transmission load sensor or engine torque boost sensor) on the transmission housing.

   Remove and Inspect

   Remove the sensor and inspect the tip for physical damage, metal shavings, or debris that could be artificially widening the magnetic gap.

   Check the Gap

   Ensure the optimal air gap is between 0.5 mm and 0.75 mm per radius. Ensure the sensor sits flush in its bore and that the target shaft does not have excessive play/runout causing the gap to widen dynamically.

   Replace the Sensor

   If the sensor housing is worn, the internal probe is failing, or it cannot be seated deeply enough to close the gap, install a new OEM torque sensor.

   Calibrate

   After adjusting the gap or installing a new sensor, you must perform a 'Torque Sensor Calibration' using the tractor's integrated control panel or diagnostic software so the Transmission ECU can relearn the baseline zero-torque voltage.
