TRANS 2902

New Holland TRANS 2902 – Transmission Control Module (TRANS / TCU): Torque sensor has declared an internal fault tolerance (CCH Only)

Issue description

The drivetrain's torque sensor has detected an internal hardware failure or its internal signal has drifted outside of the acceptable tolerance range.

Applies to these machines

  • New Holland T8.275
  • New Holland T8.300
  • New Holland T8.320
  • New Holland T8.350
  • New Holland T8.380
  • New Holland T8.390
  • New Holland T8.410
  • New Holland T8.435

Check the cause

  1. Verify the 5V reference supply voltage at the torque sensor connector

  2. Inspect the 3-pin electrical connector and wiring harness for corrosion, pushed pins, moisture ingress, chafing, or shorts to ground

  3. Check system fuses for the transmission and chassis control circuits

  4. Ensure the torque sensor is mounted securely and check the sensor gap

Repair steps

  1. Power down the tractor

Power down the tractor, engage the parking brake, and allow the drivetrain to cool.

  2. Locate the torque sensor

Locate the transmission/flywheel torque sensor on the drivetrain (typically located near the hydraulic pump drive gear or PTO torque sensor housing).

  3. Disconnect the electrical connector

Disconnect the 3-pin electrical connector from the sensor.

  4. Remove the faulty sensor

Remove the mounting hardware securing the torque sensor and extract the faulty unit.

  5. Install the new sensor

Install the new OEM torque sensor and tighten the mounting hardware to the manufacturer's specified torque.

  6. Reconnect the electrical harness

Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the weather seal clicks into place.

  7. Clear the fault codes

Clear the fault codes using a CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or equivalent diagnostic scanner.

  8. Perform sensor calibration

Perform a transmission/flywheel torque sensor calibration procedure. If the new sensor is not calibrated, the transmission controller will not recognize it and will throw a U80 code.
