Issue description

The FNRP (Forward/Neutral/Reverse/Park) pod is the shuttle lever/switch assembly used by the operator to control the tractor's directional movement. This fault is triggered when the transmission controller receives simultaneous signals indicating that two different positions (e.g., Forward and Neutral, or Forward and Reverse) are engaged at the exact same time. Because it is physically impossible for the tractor to be in two directional states at once, the controller flags this as an "illogical state" and will typically disable transmission movement for safety.

Check the cause

  1. Ensure the operator is not accidentally holding or resting their hand on the lever between two positions for an extended period.

  2. Attempt to recalibrate the hot transmission. During calibration, move the shuttle lever to Reverse (instead of Forward) and check if error code U23 (shuttle lever not in forward) appears. Then try it in Neutral. This helps verify if the controller is reading the lever's physical position at all.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness running from the transmission control (FNRP) potentiometer/switch to the transmission controller. Look for rubbed wires that could be causing a short circuit between the position signal wires.

  4. Test the FNRP pod itself to see if the internal contacts have failed and are bridging two circuits simultaneously.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down and Inspect

    Turn off the tractor. Inspect the physical FNRP shuttle lever for mechanical binding, broken detents, or debris that might prevent the lever from seating fully into a single position.

  2. Check Connections

    Access the FNRP pod assembly (usually located on the steering column or armrest console, depending on the model). Disconnect the electrical connector and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or bent terminals.

  3. Test the Wiring Harness

    Using a multimeter, check the continuity of the wiring harness from the FNRP pod connector down to the Transmission Controller. Test for shorts to ground, shorts to power (B+), and cross-continuity between the Forward, Neutral, and Reverse signal wires. Repair any damaged wiring.

  4. Test/Replace the FNRP Pod

    If the wiring harness is intact, the failure is likely internal to the transmission control (FNRP) pot. Use a multimeter to test the switch outputs. If the switch internally shorts two position circuits together, the pod assembly must be replaced.

  5. Reassembly and Calibration

    Install the new FNRP pod and reconnect the harness. Clear the stored TRANS 59 fault code from the system. Perform a full transmission calibration procedure as outlined in the operator's manual to ensure the transmission controller learns the new pod's exact voltage values.
