New Holland TRANS 60 – Transmission Controller (TCU): FNRP pod in illogical state (in no position)

The FNRP (Forward-Neutral-Reverse-Park) pod/potentiometer is sending an illogical signal to the controller. Specifically, the code is recorded if the FNRP pot indicates that the lever is not in neutral, not in forward, and not in reverse for 2.5 consecutive seconds.

   Verify operator error: ensure the operator is not holding the shuttle lever up or resting their hand on it between positions for over 2.5 seconds

   Inspect the wiring harness running from the transmission control (FNRP) pot to the transmission controller for chafing, open circuits, or shorts

   Test the transmission control (FNRP) potentiometer/switch itself for internal failure or dead spots between detents

   Clear and Retest

   Clear the fault code and operate the tractor. Ensure the shuttle lever is moved firmly and quickly between Forward, Neutral, and Reverse. If the code does not return, the issue was likely operator-induced (holding the lever between positions).

   Inspect Connections

   If the code persists, access the FNRP pod on the steering column or armrest. Disconnect the harness and inspect the pins for corrosion, pushed-back terminals, or moisture.

   Test the Harness

   Using a multimeter, check the continuity of the wiring harness from the FNRP pod connector to the Transmission Controller. Repair any broken or shorted wires.

   Replace the FNRP Pod

   If the wiring is intact and the operator is using the lever correctly, the internal potentiometer/switches of the FNRP pod have failed. Remove the mounting screws/brackets holding the FNRP pod, disconnect the harness, and install a replacement shuttle lever/pod assembly.

   Calibrate

   After installing a new FNRP pod, a transmission/clutch calibration may be required depending on the specific tractor model to ensure the controller recognizes the new potentiometer voltages.
