New Holland TRANS 68 – Transmission Controller (TRANS / TCU): FNRP Pod Reverse switch is shorted to ground or open circuit

The transmission controller detects that the reverse signal voltage from the FNRP potentiometer/switch is too low, indicating a broken wire (open circuit), a wire rubbing against the chassis (short to ground), or an internal failure of the switch itself.

   Inspect the wiring harness running from the steering column/armrest down to the transmission controller for visible chafing, pinches, or breaks.

   Disconnect the multi-pin connector at the FNRP pod and inspect the pins for corrosion, pushed-back terminals, or moisture.

   Using a multimeter, test the Reverse signal circuit (often Pin 1 or Pin 5) for continuity between the pod connector and the transmission controller connector to rule out an open circuit.

   Test the Reverse signal wire for continuity to ground to rule out a short circuit.

   Verify that the FNRP pod is receiving its 5-volt reference signal and has a good ground connection.

   Prepare machine for repair

   Park the machine on a level surface, turn off the engine, and disconnect the negative battery cable.

   Remove trim

   Remove the plastic trim/shrouding around the steering column or the armrest console (depending on where the shuttle lever is mounted on your specific model) to access the base of the FNRP pod.

   Disconnect harness

   Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the FNRP pod.

   Remove fasteners

   Remove the mounting screws/fasteners securing the FNRP pod or shuttle lever bracket to the column/console.

   Remove faulty assembly

   Remove the faulty FNRP pod assembly.

   Install new assembly

   Install the new FNRP pod/shuttle lever and secure it with the mounting hardware.

   Reconnect harness

   Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the connector clicks firmly into place.

   Reinstall trim

   Reinstall the steering column or armrest trim.

   Test operation

   Reconnect the battery, turn the key on, and clear the stored fault codes. Test the Forward/Reverse shuttle operation to confirm the TRANS 68 code does not return.
