New Holland TRANS 69 – Transmission Controller (TCU): FNRP Pod Reverse switch is shorted to power
Issue description
The FNRP (Forward/Neutral/Reverse/Park) pod is the directional control switch that sends operator commands to the transmission. If the transmission controller detects that the reverse signal voltage coming from the FNRP potentiometer/switch is too high, it logs this fault code.
Applies to these machines
12 machines- TG210
- TG230
- TG255
- TG285
- TG305
- T8010
- T8020
- T8030
- T8040
- T8050
- T9000 Series
- TJ 480
Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness between the FNRP pod and the transmission controller for any signs of chafing, melting, or pinching that could cause the reverse signal wire to short to a 12V power source or the 5V reference circuit.
Disconnect the FNRP pod and use a multimeter to check the reverse signal circuit on the harness side for unwanted voltage (short to power).
If the harness tests good (no short to power found in the wiring), conclude that the internal circuitry of the FNRP pod/switch has failed and is sending a high voltage signal.
Repair steps
Power down the tractor and disconnect the battery.
Ensures safety and prevents further electrical shorts.
Locate the FNRP pod/shuttle lever assembly.
Typically located on the right-hand control console/armrest or the steering column, depending on the specific tractor model.
Remove the necessary trim panels or console covers.
Access the base of the FNRP switch and its electrical connector.
Disconnect the wiring harness from the FNRP switch.
Unbolt the mounting hardware securing the FNRP switch/lever assembly.
Perform this if diagnostic tests confirmed the switch is faulty.
Install the new FNRP switch/lever assembly.
Secure it with the mounting hardware.
Reconnect the electrical harness.
Reinstall all trim panels and console covers.
Reconnect the battery, turn the key on, and clear the stored fault codes.
Start the tractor and test the Forward, Neutral, Reverse, and Park functions.
Verify the repair and ensure the code does not return.
