New Holland TRANS 72 – Transmission Controller (TRANS / TCM): Transmission Oil Temperature is above 122°C (251.6°F)

The system logs this code when the temperature threshold is exceeded for more than 2 seconds, indicating an overheating condition in the transmission or hydraulic system.

   Inspect airflow through the radiator and transmission oil coolers for blockages caused by chaff, dirt, or debris

   Check engine cooling system coolant level, as low coolant can indirectly cause the transmission cooler to operate inefficiently

   Verify transmission fluid is at the correct level and not degraded

   Test the transmission oil temperature sensor and wiring for accuracy or damage (look for related codes 2812 or 2813)

   Cool Down

   Immediately shut down the tractor to allow the transmission oil to cool. Do not continue operating the machine while the oil is above 122°C.

   Clear Debris

   Thoroughly clean and clear all debris from the radiator and oil cooler intake screens.

   Correct Fluids

   Top off the engine coolant and transmission fluid to their specified levels.

   Restart and Monitor

   Restart the tractor after the oil temperature has been reduced. Run the engine to warm up the oil and monitor the temperature gauge/readout.

   Filter Replacement

   If the transmission continues to overheat rapidly under normal load, the HST/transmission oil filter may be clogged, restricting flow to the cooler. Replace the transmission oil filter.

   Sensor Replacement

   If the transmission casing is physically cool to the touch but the controller still registers >122°C and triggers TRANS 72, the transmission oil temperature sensor has failed internally and must be replaced.
