New Holland UCM 1221 – UCM (Universal Control Module): Health Monitor Functions: UCM Temperature / Current Draw Over Limit
Issue description
Triggered when the combined electrical current drawn through the module is greater than a predefined limit, or the internal temperature of the module has exceeded its safe operating threshold.

Check the cause
Check the physical temperature of the UCM to verify if it is actually overheating
Check battery voltage and inspect ground connections for corrosion or looseness
Inspect the wiring harness connected to the UCM for any short circuits to ground or power
Check for overloaded circuits (e.g., failing solenoid, damaged actuator, or improperly wired aftermarket accessory drawing power through the UCM)
Repair steps
Disconnect battery
Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery negative cable (or use the battery disconnect switch if equipped).
Inspect UCM and connectors
Inspect the UCM and its connectors for signs of melting, burning, or water ingress.
Inspect wiring harness
Inspect the machine's wiring harness for chafing, pinched wires, or shorts to the chassis.
Isolate faulty component
If a short is suspected, disconnect components and solenoids powered by the UCM one by one. Monitor the current draw (or check if the code changes to an open-circuit code) to isolate the faulty component.
Repair or replace external component
Repair any damaged wiring or replace the faulty external component drawing excessive current.
Replace UCM
If the wiring and external components are intact but the UCM continues to overheat or report an over-current state, the UCM has suffered an internal short and must be replaced.
Install new UCM and clear codes
Install the new UCM, reconnect the battery, and clear the fault codes. Note that a new UCM may require software flashing/calibration using the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST).
