UCM 1222

New Holland UCM 1222 – UCM (Universal Control Module): Health Monitor Functions: UCM Sustained Over Temperature Limit

Issue description

This is an internal health monitoring code indicating that the internal temperature of the control module has exceeded its maximum safe operating threshold for a prolonged period.

Applies to these machines

  • L213
  • L215
  • L216
  • L218
  • L220
  • L221
  • L223
  • L225
  • L228
  • L230
  • C227
  • C232
  • C238

Check the cause

  1. Check the physical location of the UCM for external heat sources, debris buildup, or lack of ventilation that could be baking the module

  2. Inspect the UCM housing for signs of physical damage, burning, melting, or severe oxidation/corrosion

  3. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors for shorts to ground or power (a short can cause excessive current draw and heat)

  4. Verify system voltage to ensure the alternator is not overcharging the system, which can cause electronic components to overheat

  5. If the wiring, voltage, and environment are normal, conclude that the fault is an internal hardware failure within the UCM's circuitry

Repair steps

  1. Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery

Disconnect the negative cable first to prevent electrostatic discharge or short circuits.

  2. Locate the UCM

Locate the UCM on the machine.

  3. Disconnect the wiring harness

Carefully disconnect the multi-pin wiring harness connectors from the UCM.

  4. Remove the faulty UCM

Remove the retaining hardware and extract the faulty UCM.

  5. Install the replacement UCM

Install the replacement UCM and secure it with the mounting hardware.

  6. Reconnect the wiring harness

    Reconnect the wiring harness securely.

  7. Reconnect the battery

    Reconnect the battery.

  8. Program the new UCM

The new or remanufactured UCM will be blank or have base software. It must be flashed/programmed with the correct machine-specific software using the New Holland Electronic Service Tool (EST) before the machine will operate.
