UCM 1533

New Holland UCM 1533 – UCM: Backup Alarm Activation: Short to Power

Issue description

The control module has detected an electrical short to a 12V power source on the circuit responsible for activating the machine's reverse/backup alarm.

Applies to these machines

  • L213
  • L215
  • L218
  • L220
  • L221
  • L223
  • L225
  • L228
  • L230
  • C227
  • C232
  • C234
  • C237
  • C238

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the wiring harness running from the UCM to the backup alarm at the rear of the machine for chafed insulation, pinched wires, or exposed copper touching a 12V power source.

  2. Disconnect the backup alarm and use a digital multimeter to check the circuit for voltage when the machine is not in reverse. If voltage is present, the short is in the wiring.

  3. Check the backup alarm proximity switch (often located near the linkage/controls) and its wiring for damage or internal shorting.

  4. Test the backup alarm itself for an internal short circuit.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Shut the unit down and disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on the electrical system.

  2. Isolate the Short

Based on your multimeter readings, isolate whether the short to power is located in the main chassis harness, the proximity switch, or the alarm unit itself.

  3. Repair Wiring

If the harness is damaged, repair the chafed/shorted section using appropriate weather-sealed connectors and heat shrink, or replace the affected harness section.

  4. Replace Components

If the wiring is intact but the backup alarm or proximity switch is internally shorted, remove the defective component and install the OEM replacement part.

  5. Test and Clear

Reconnect the battery, turn the key on, and clear the fault codes from the UCM. Shift the machine into reverse to verify that the backup alarm sounds correctly and that the UCM 1533 code does not return.
