UCM 1903

New Holland UCM 1903 – UCM (Universal Control Module): Power Supply: UCM Supply Voltage Below Operational Limit

Issue description

This code indicates that the voltage being supplied to the UCM has dropped below the minimum threshold required for the module to operate correctly. This is typically a power delivery issue (wiring, relays, or battery) rather than a sensor failure.

Applies to these machines

  • L213
  • L216
  • L218
  • L220
  • L221
  • L223
  • L225
  • L230
  • C227
  • C232
  • C238
  • T5 series
  • T7 series
  • T8 series
  • CR series

Check the cause

  1. Verify that the machine's battery is fully charged and the alternator is outputting the correct voltage

  2. Test or swap the Micro UCM Power Relay in the main fuse box (often located at positions A7/A9 on skid steers)

  3. Check all fuses supplying power to the UCM circuit

  4. Inspect the main chassis wiring harness connecting to the UCM for rubbed wires, corrosion at the connector pins, or loose grounds

  5. Back-probe the power supply pins at the UCM connector to check for voltage drops compared to battery voltage

Repair steps

  1. Resolve Power Supply Issues

If the diagnostic checks reveal low voltage reaching the UCM, repair the damaged section of the wiring harness, clean the ground terminals, or replace the faulty UCM power relay/fuse.

  2. Clear Codes and Retest

After restoring proper voltage to the module, use the Electronic Service Tool (EST) or the machine's onboard diagnostic display to clear the UCM 1903 code. Operate the machine to see if the code returns.

  3. UCM Replacement (If Necessary)

If the wiring, relays, and battery voltage are all within specification under load, but the UCM still logs a "Voltage Below Operational Limit" fault, the UCM has suffered an internal hardware failure.

  4. Module Programming

If the UCM is replaced, the new module will be blank. It must be flashed and configured using the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) so the module recognizes the specific machine's equipment (e.g., high flow hydraulics, grid heaters, etc.).
