UCM 1904

New Holland UCM 1904 – UCM (Universal Control Module): Power Supply: Rail 12VB - 5 V Regulators Supply Input Power OFF

Issue description

This fault code indicates that the 12-volt input power supply (Rail 12VB) that feeds the internal 5-volt regulators within the control module has been disconnected, interrupted, or turned off unexpectedly. Without this 12V input, the module cannot step down the voltage to 5V to power its internal components and external 5V reference sensors.

Check the cause

  1. Check the UCM Power Relay (K-003) in the fuse and relay box, which supplies switched battery power to the UCM.

  2. Inspect the Accessory Power Distribution Fuse (Z-FUSE2) in the Accessory Power Distribution Fuse Block 2.

  3. Test relay control circuit wiring by removing the K-003 relay, turning the ignition ON, and checking for 12V from the Accessory Power Distribution Fuse Block 2 to Z-FUSE2 pin B7 and ground.

  4. Test UCM ground and supply wiring between Z-FUSE2 pin A9 and ground, looking for broken wires or shorts (specifically black ground wires 1067/1069/983).

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn the battery quick disconnect switch to the OFF position (if equipped). Otherwise, disconnect the negative battery cable first, followed by the positive cable.

  2. Replace Blown Fuses

If Z-FUSE2 is blown, replace it with a fuse of the correct amperage. If it blows immediately upon reconnecting power, trace the Rail 12VB circuit for a short to ground.

  3. Replace the Relay

If the K-003 UCM Power Relay fails bench testing (or if the coil is open/contacts are burnt), replace the relay.

  4. Repair Wiring

If the diagnostic checks reveal 0V at the relay block or a break between Z-FUSE2 and the UCM, repair or replace the damaged section of the wire harness.

  5. Replace the UCM

If the fuses, relay, and wiring harness all test good and supply 12V directly to the UCM pins, the UCM has suffered an internal hardware failure on the Rail 12VB circuit and must be replaced.
