UCM 4057

New Holland UCM 4057 – UCM (Universal Control Module): Hydraulics Enable: Solenoid Supply Short to Power

Issue description

This fault code indicates that the Universal Control Module (UCM) has detected a short circuit to a power source on the supply circuit for the Hydraulics Enable solenoid. This solenoid is responsible for activating and deactivating the hydraulic system (and is often tied to the parking brake release circuit).

Applies to these machines

  • 200 Series (L213, L218, L220, L223, L225, C227, C232)
  • 300 Series (L313, L315, L318, L320, L323, L325, L330, C327, C332, C338)
  • SR and SV Series Skid Steers (e.g., SR175)
  • TR and TV Series Compact Track Loaders

Check the cause

  1. Check the wiring harness between the UCM and the Hydraulics Enable solenoid for chafing, melted insulation, or pinched wires that could cause the supply wire to short against a 12V power source.

  2. Measure the resistance of the Hydraulics Enable solenoid to ensure it is not internally shorted.

  3. Measure the internal resistance of the UCM at the solenoid supply pin (0 ohms indicates an internal short, greater than 10 K ohms indicates an internal open).

Repair steps

  1. Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical damage during testing.

  2. Locate the Hydraulics Enable solenoid (typically located on the main hydraulic control valve block).

  3. Disconnect the solenoid connector and inspect the terminals for corrosion, moisture, or damage.

  4. Trace the wiring harness from the solenoid back to the UCM. Look for areas where the wire may be rubbing against the frame or bundled with other powered wires. Repair any damaged wiring sections.

  5. Test the solenoid with a multimeter. If the solenoid fails the resistance test or is shorted, replace the solenoid.

  6. If the wiring and solenoid are intact, test the UCM. If the UCM is internally shorted (0 ohms), the module must be replaced.

  7. Reconnect the battery. If the UCM was replaced, ensure the new module is flashed with the correct software version so it can communicate properly with the instrument cluster.

  8. Clear the fault codes using the Electronic Service Tool (EST) and cycle the hydraulic enable switch/parking brake to verify the repair.
