New Holland UCM 4309 – UCM: Park Brake Button Timed Out (30 sec)

The UCM has detected a continuous, uninterrupted signal from the park brake button for more than 30 seconds. This indicates the button is either physically jammed in the depressed position, internally shorted, or there is a short-to-voltage/ground in the wiring harness leading to the UCM.

   Physical Inspection: Inspect the park brake button on the instrument panel. Check if dirt, debris, or sticky residue is causing the button to physically stick in the depressed position.

   Switch Continuity Test: Disconnect the switch from the wiring harness and use a multimeter to test for continuity. If the switch shows continuity (closed circuit) without being pressed, the switch is internally shorted and must be replaced.

   Harness/Wiring Check: If the switch tests fine, inspect the wiring harness between the switch and the UCM. Look for pinched wires, chafing, or melted insulation that could be causing a short circuit.

   UCM Input Test: Verify the voltage at the switch connector to ensure the UCM is sending the correct reference voltage and that the ground circuit is intact.

   Secure the Machine

   Park the skid steer on level ground, lower the loader arms to the ground, and turn off the engine.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the battery quick-disconnect switch (if equipped) or disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

   Access the Switch

   Remove the retaining screws holding the instrument panel/bezel in place to access the rear of the control switches.

   Remove the Faulty Switch

   Disconnect the 4-terminal electrical connector from the back of the park brake button. Depress the retaining tabs on the sides of the switch body and push it out through the front of the panel.

   Install the New Switch

   Snap the new OEM park brake switch into the panel until the retaining tabs click into place. Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Reassembly

   Reinstall the instrument panel and secure it with the screws.

   Test Operation

   Reconnect the battery. Sit in the operator seat, fasten the seatbelt, start the machine, and press the park brake button to verify that the brake engages/disengages properly and that the UCM 4309 code has cleared.
