UCM 4361

New Holland UCM 4361 – UCM (Universal Control Module): Ground Drive: Solenoid Right (A) Supply Open Circuit

Issue description

The electrical circuit supplying power to the right-side ground drive (reverse pump) directional control solenoid has an open circuit. The controller is detecting infinite resistance or a broken connection, meaning the solenoid cannot be actuated to control the hydrostatic drive pump on that side.

Applies to these machines

  • L213
  • L215
  • L218
  • L220
  • L223
  • L225
  • L230
  • SR175
  • C227
  • C232
  • C238

Check the cause

  1. Check UCM power and fuses, specifically the UCM Battery Fuse and UCM 2SPD Fuse in the fuse panel.

  2. Inspect the Ground Drive Right (A) solenoid connector on the hydrostatic pump assembly for pushed-out pins, corrosion, or water intrusion.

  3. Test solenoid continuity by measuring resistance across the pins of the Right (A) solenoid coil (infinite resistance indicates a broken/open internal coil).

  4. Test the wiring harness between the UCM and the solenoid connector for continuity, looking for chafed, pinched, or broken wires.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery cable (or use the battery quick-disconnect switch if equipped) to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

  2. Access the Hydrostatic Pumps

Lift and mechanically lock the loader arms (if necessary for access) and tilt the cab forward following the OEM safety procedure to access the hydrostatic drive pumps.

  3. Locate the Faulty Solenoid

Identify the Right (A) directional control solenoid on the reverse pump control valve block.

  4. Repair or Replace

If the harness is damaged: Repair the broken wire or replace the damaged connector pigtail. If the solenoid coil is open: Remove the retaining nut holding the solenoid coil to the valve stem. Slide the old coil off and install the new replacement coil. Torque the retaining nut to OEM specifications.

  5. Reassemble

Reconnect the solenoid wiring harness. Lower and secure the cab.

  6. Restore Power & Clear Codes

Reconnect the battery. Turn the key on and use the instrument cluster or an electronic service tool (EST) to clear the UCM 4361 fault code.

  7. Test Operation

Start the machine, press the hydraulic enable button, and test the ground drive in forward and reverse to ensure the code does not return and the machine tracks straight.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Ground Drive Control Valve Solenoid (Right / Reverse Pump Directional Solenoid)

Specific OEM part numbers vary heavily based on the exact hydrostatic pump equipped (e.g., Danfoss vs. Rexroth) and the machine's PIN/Serial Number. Often, the solenoid coil can be purchased separately from the hydraulic valve cartridge. Ensure you are replacing the Right (A) / Reverse solenoid.
