New Holland UCM 4382 – UCM (Universal Control Module): Ground Drive: Pumps Reverse Solenoid(s) Short to Ground
Issue description
The electrical circuit supplying power to the reverse directional solenoid(s) on the ground drive pump has shorted to ground. The controller has detected that the current is bypassing the intended load (the solenoid coil) and going directly to the chassis ground, which usually points to a chafed wire, a pinched harness, or an internally shorted solenoid coil.

Check the cause
Raise the machine on heavy-duty supports so the tires or tracks are completely off the ground to prevent accidental movement during testing.
Trace the wiring harness from the UCM to the ground drive pump's reverse solenoid. Look for chafed insulation, pinched wires, or areas where the harness rubs against the metal chassis.
Disconnect the reverse solenoid connector and inspect for water intrusion, corrosion, or bent pins that could bridge the power supply to ground.
With the solenoid disconnected, use a multimeter to check for continuity to ground on the supply wire. If continuity remains, the short is in the harness. If it disappears, the solenoid coil is internally shorted.
Measure the resistance across the pins of the reverse solenoid to verify if it is out of specification or shorted.

Secure the Machine
Ensure the machine is turned off, the key is removed, the parking brake is set, and the machine is safely raised on blocks.
Address the Wiring (If Applicable)
If the diagnostic tests revealed a harness short, repair the damaged section of the wire using weather-sealed heat shrink connectors, or replace the affected harness pigtail. Route the harness away from sharp edges and secure it with zip ties.
Replace the Solenoid (If Applicable)
If the solenoid is internally shorted: Clean the area around the ground drive pump to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system. Disconnect the electrical connector from the reverse solenoid. Unthread the faulty reverse solenoid/Proportional Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) from the pump housing. Install the new solenoid, ensuring the O-rings are lubricated with clean hydraulic oil. Torque to OEM specifications.
Reassemble and Clear Codes
Reconnect the electrical harness. Turn the key on and use the diagnostic interface to clear the UCM 4382 code.
Recalibrate
Because a ground drive component was serviced, you must perform a Ground Drive Calibration via the instrument cluster/monitor to ensure the UCM learns the correct electrical thresholds for the new solenoid.
Test Operation
Start the machine and test the reverse ground drive function while the machine is still safely on blocks. Verify smooth operation and ensure the code does not return.
