New Holland UCM 5053 – UCM: Loader Pilot Interlock Valve (On/Off) – Solenoid Supply Short to Power

The control module has detected a 'Short to Power' on the circuit supplying voltage to the Loader Pilot Interlock Valve (or Hydraulics Enable) solenoid. This is a Red priority error that completely disables the loader hydraulics.

   Visually inspect the wiring harness running from the UCM to the loader pilot interlock solenoid for areas where the wire loom may have rubbed against the chassis or hydraulic lines, exposing bare copper to a 12V source.

   Disconnect the solenoid and inspect the connector pins to verify they are secure, tight, and free of corrosion, moisture, or bent pins.

   Perform a harness voltage test: With the key ON, engine OFF, and hydraulics not enabled, probe the supply wire at the solenoid connector. If 12V is present, the harness is shorted to power between the UCM and the valve.

   Perform a solenoid coil resistance test: Measure the resistance (Ohms) across the two pins of the solenoid coil. If the reading is near zero, the coil is internally shorted.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the machine and engage the battery quick-disconnect switch (if equipped), or manually disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

   Locate the Valve

   Locate the Loader Pilot Interlock Valve on the main hydraulic control valve block (usually accessible by raising the cab/ROPS).

   Isolate the Short

   If your diagnostic tests proved the solenoid coil is internally shorted, remove the retaining nut on the end of the solenoid stem and slide the faulty coil off the valve cartridge. If the coil tested fine but the harness showed 12V constantly, trace the wiring harness back to the UCM, locate the chafed wire, repair it using OEM-approved heat-shrink butt connectors, and re-loom the harness.

   Install New Parts

   Slide the new solenoid coil onto the valve cartridge and tighten the retaining nut (do not overtighten, as this can distort the cartridge).

   Reconnect and Clear

   Reconnect the electrical pigtail to the solenoid. Reconnect the battery.

   Test

   Turn the key on, clear the inactive UCM fault codes via the instrument cluster or Electronic Service Tool (EST), and press the 'Hydraulics Enable' button to verify the loader arms now function without throwing the code.
