UCM 5061

New Holland UCM 5061 – UCM: Loader Port Lock: Solenoid Supply Open Circuit

Issue description

The control module has detected a break in the electrical circuit supplying power to the loader port lock solenoid. An open circuit means the electrical connection is broken, disconnected, or the internal coil of the solenoid has failed and broken the circuit.

Applies to these machines

  • L213
  • L215
  • L218
  • L220
  • L221
  • L223
  • L225
  • L228
  • L230
  • L315
  • L334
  • C227
  • C232
  • C238

Check the cause

  1. Connect an Electronic Service Tool to the diagnostic connector to confirm the UCM 5061 code is currently active.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness running from the UCM to the Port Lock Solenoid on the main control valve. Look for broken wires, abrasion, or incorrect attachment.

  3. Inspect the specific electrical connector at the solenoid (often designated as connector X-412 or X-PORT-LK, which uses a Deutsch DT series connector). Ensure the connection is secure, tight, and free of corrosion or bent pins.

  4. Use a multimeter to test the resistance of the port lock solenoid coil. If the multimeter reads infinite resistance (OL), the solenoid coil is internally open and must be replaced.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Park the machine on level ground, lower the boom/bucket to the ground (if possible), and turn off the engine.

  2. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.

  3. Access the Valve

Locate the main hydraulic control valve where the port lock solenoid is mounted.

  4. Wiring Repair

If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire or damaged connector, splice in a new wire or replace the damaged Deutsch connector terminal.

  5. Solenoid Replacement

Disconnect the electrical connector from the port lock solenoid. Unthread and remove the faulty loader port lock solenoid from the control valve block. Install the new solenoid and tighten to OEM specifications. Reconnect the electrical harness.

  6. Reassembly and Testing

Reconnect the negative battery cable. Start the machine, clear the fault codes using the service tool, and actuate the boom and bucket functions to ensure the port lock disengages properly and the code does not return.
