New Holland UCM 5062 – UCM (Universal Control Module): Loader Port Lock: Solenoid Supply Short to Ground

The Universal Control Module (UCM) has sent a signal to energize the Loader Port Lock solenoid (also referred to as the Spool Lock Out Solenoid), but it has detected a short to ground on the solenoid's voltage supply line. When this code is active, the loader hydraulics are typically disabled as a safety precaution.

   Inspect the UCM and the loader port lock connections. Ensure all connections are secure, tight, and free of corrosion, abrasion, or damage.

   Trace and inspect the wiring harness from the UCM to the loader port lock solenoid. Verify that the harness is not pinched, chafed, or incorrectly routed.

   Measure the resistance between the UCM connector pin for the port lock solenoid and the chassis ground. Wiggle the harness during measurement to reveal any intermittent short-to-ground conditions.

   Temporarily plug in a known-good replacement solenoid. Turn the ignition switch ON and monitor the fault code screen. If the code clears, the original solenoid is internally shorted. If the code persists, the UCM itself may be faulty and require testing/replacement.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn the battery quick disconnect switch to the OFF position (if equipped). Disconnect the negative battery cable first, followed by the positive battery cable.

   Locate the Solenoid

   Locate the loader port lock solenoid on the main hydraulic control valve block.

   Disconnect Wiring

   Unplug the electrical connector from the defective loader port lock solenoid.

   Remove the Solenoid

   Unthread and remove the loader port lock solenoid from the hydraulic valve. Have a rag ready to catch any residual hydraulic fluid.

   Install the New Part

   Install the new loader port lock solenoid into the valve block and tighten to the specified torque.

   Reconnect Wiring

   Plug the electrical connector back into the new solenoid.

   Restore Power

   Reconnect the positive battery cable, followed by the negative battery cable. Turn the battery quick disconnect switch back to the ON position.

   Verify Repair

   Turn the ignition switch ON and verify that fault code 5062 is no longer active. Test the loader arm functions to ensure the hydraulic lock has disengaged.
