New Holland UCM 5214 – UCM: Ground Drive: Pin B Short to Ground / Open Circuit

The control module has detected a fault in the signal circuit for the left joystick, which controls the machine's ground drive. The voltage signal from Pin B of the joystick's forward-back axis sensor is either missing entirely (open circuit) or is shorting out to a ground source, resulting in a loss of drive function.

   Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the left-hand joystick for chafing, pinched wires, or rodent damage.

   Disconnect the left joystick harness connector and inspect Pin B for corrosion, moisture, pushed-out pins, or bent terminals.

   Using a multimeter, test the continuity of the wire corresponding to Pin B from the joystick connector back to the UCM harness connector (infinite resistance indicates a break).

   With both ends of the harness disconnected, test the Pin B wire for continuity to the machine's chassis ground (continuity indicates a short to ground).

   If the wiring harness passes all continuity and short-to-ground tests, the internal potentiometer/sensor of the left joystick has failed.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the battery disconnect switch or disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

   Repair Wiring

   If a wiring fault was found during diagnostics, splice and repair the broken/shorted wire using weather-sealed connectors, or replace the affected harness section.

   Replace the Joystick

   If wiring is good, remove the mounting screws/bolts securing the left joystick console and boot. Disconnect the main electrical connector from the base of the joystick. Remove the faulty joystick assembly and install the new OEM replacement. Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place. Secure the joystick console and boot back into position.

   Reassemble and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the key on and clear the inactive fault codes using the instrument cluster or electronic service tool (EST).

   Perform Calibration

   Perform a Ground Drive Calibration procedure for the new joystick installation to prevent secondary code 1212 (Ground Drive Calibration Not Complete).
