New Holland UCM 5222 – UCM (Universal Control Module): Loader Arm Valve (Directional) - Solenoid Raise A Supply Short to Ground
Issue description
The control module has detected that the electrical supply circuit providing power to the solenoid responsible for raising the loader arm (boom) is shorted directly to the chassis ground. When this occurs, the module will disable the circuit to prevent electrical damage or blown fuses, resulting in the operator being unable to raise the boom.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the wiring harness running from the UCM to the Loader Arm Control Valve for pinched wires, melted insulation, or chafing against the metal chassis or moving linkages.
Disconnect the Deutsche DT series electrical connector at the Loader Arm Raise Solenoid (Solenoid A) to isolate the short.
With the solenoid disconnected, use a multimeter to check for continuity between the supply wire on the harness side and the chassis ground. Continuity indicates the short is in the wiring harness.
Measure the resistance of the solenoid coil pins to the metal body of the valve. Continuity to the valve body indicates the solenoid coil has failed internally and is shorting to ground.
Repair steps
Secure the Machine
Lower the boom completely to the ground. If the boom must be raised for access, you must engage the mechanical cylinder locks/boom locks to prevent the arms from crushing you.
Disconnect Power
Turn off the ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent accidental shorting during repair.
Repair the Harness
If the diagnostic checks pointed to a harness short, trace the wire back from the solenoid to the UCM, locate the exposed copper, and repair it using a weatherproof splice and heat-shrink tubing. Secure the harness away from pinch points.
Replace the Solenoid Coil
If the diagnostic checks pointed to a failed coil, locate the Loader Arm Directional Valve block. Disconnect the Deutsche DT connector from Solenoid A (Raise). Remove the retaining nut at the end of the solenoid stem. Slide the faulty solenoid coil off the valve cartridge. Slide the new OEM solenoid coil onto the stem and torque the retaining nut to OEM specifications.
Reassembly and Testing
Reconnect the electrical connector and the battery. Turn the key on, clear the inactive UCM fault codes using a diagnostic tool or the in-cab display (if supported), and test the boom raise/lower functions to ensure the code does not return.
