New Holland UCM 5252 – UCM: Loader Bucket Valve (Directional) - Solenoid Rollback (A) Supply Short to Ground

This code indicates that the electrical supply circuit for the bucket rollback solenoid (Solenoid A on the directional control valve) has shorted to ground. This prevents the solenoid from energizing properly, which will disable or severely impair the bucket rollback (curl) function.

   Visually inspect the wiring harness running from the UCM to the loader bucket directional valve block for chafed insulation, pinched wires, or exposed copper touching the metal chassis.

   Perform a circuit isolation test by disconnecting the electrical connector at the Rollback (A) solenoid and checking for continuity to ground on the supply wire (harness side).

   Test the solenoid coil for an internal short by measuring resistance across the solenoid pins and from the supply pin to the metal casing of the solenoid.

   Inspect the UCM harness connectors for water ingress, corrosion, or bent pins that could be bridging the supply circuit to a ground pin.

   Safety First

   Lower the loader arms and rest the bucket flat on the ground. Turn off the engine and turn the key to the ON position (engine off) while moving the joysticks to relieve any residual hydraulic pressure in the loader circuit.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position or disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

   Locate the Valve

   Access the main loader directional control valve block (usually located under the cab or behind the access panels, depending on the specific skid steer/tractor model). Identify the Rollback (A) solenoid.

   Harness Repair (If Applicable)

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a harness short, splice and solder the damaged wire, sealing it with dual-wall heat shrink, and secure the harness away from pinch points.

   Solenoid Replacement (If Applicable)

   Unplug the electrical connector from the shorted solenoid. Remove the retaining nut or clip holding the solenoid coil to the valve stem. Slide the old solenoid coil off the cartridge tube. (Note: You usually do not need to open the hydraulic system or remove the valve cartridge just to replace the electrical coil). Slide the new solenoid coil onto the valve stem and secure it with the retaining nut/clip. Plug the electrical connector back in.

   Reassembly and Testing

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the machine on and use the diagnostic menu or service tool to clear the UCM 5252 fault code. Test the bucket rollback function to ensure smooth operation and verify the code does not return.
