New Holland UCM 5272 – UCM: Bucket Rollback / Dump: Loader Bucket Solenoid(s) Short to Ground

The electrical circuit controlling the directional valve solenoids for the bucket rollback and dump functions has an unintended path to ground, which disables or impairs the bucket's hydraulic functions.

   Inspect the wiring harness from the UCM to the loader bucket directional valve for chafed, pinched, or melted wires that could be grounding out against the machine's chassis.

   Disconnect the electrical connector at the loader bucket rollback/dump solenoids and use a multimeter to check for an internal short to ground within the solenoid coil itself.

   Inspect the connectors for moisture, corrosion, or damaged pins that could be bridging the power supply circuit to the ground circuit.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the machine and utilize the battery disconnect switch (or disconnect the negative battery cable) to prevent electrical spikes during repair.

   Isolate the Fault

   If the multimeter test shows continuity to ground on the harness side (with the solenoid disconnected), the wiring harness must be repaired or replaced. If the short is isolated to the solenoid itself, proceed to replace the solenoid.

   Replace the Solenoid

   Remove the retaining nut holding the faulty rollback/dump solenoid to the directional hydraulic valve stem. Slide the old solenoid off and install the new OEM solenoid.

   Reassemble and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the electrical harness. Reconnect the battery. Use a New Holland Electronic Service Tool (EST) or a compatible CAN-bus DTC eraser to clear the inactive 5272 fault code from the UCM memory.

   Test Operation

   Start the machine and cycle the right-hand control lever (Bucket Rollback / Dump) to verify smooth operation and ensure the code does not return.
