New Holland UCM 5282 – UCM (Universal Control Module): Aux Control Function: Solenoid Forward (A) Supply Short to Ground

The control module has detected that the electrical supply circuit providing power to the Forward (A) directional solenoid on the auxiliary hydraulic valve is shorting directly to the machine's ground. This prevents the solenoid from actuating, effectively disabling the forward auxiliary hydraulic function.

   Inspect the wiring harness running from the UCM to the auxiliary hydraulic control valve for pinched wires, chafing against the chassis, or melted insulation.

   Disconnect the electrical connector at the Forward (A) auxiliary solenoid and check for continuity to ground on the supply wire to isolate the short (if short remains, it is in the harness; if it disappears, it is internal to the solenoid).

   Measure the resistance of the Forward (A) solenoid coil to check for internal shorts to the casing/ground or abnormally low resistance (near 0 ohms).

   Inspect the UCM harness connectors for water intrusion, corrosion, or bent pins that could bridge the auxiliary supply circuit to a ground pin.

   Preparation

   Park the machine on a level surface. Lower the boom completely (or raise it and engage the mechanical boom locks if access requires it). Turn off the engine and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the Valve

   Unbolt and tilt the cab forward, securing it with the mechanical cab lock to access the main hydraulic control valve block located in the chassis.

   Locate the Solenoid

   Identify the Forward (A) directional solenoid on the auxiliary section of the loader control valve.

   Wiring Repair (If Applicable)

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a chafed wire in the harness, cut out the damaged section. Splice in a new wire using weather-sealed, heat-shrink butt connectors, and wrap the harness in protective split loom, routing it away from sharp edges.

   Solenoid Replacement (If Applicable)

   If the solenoid coil is internally shorted: Remove the retaining nut holding the coil to the valve stem. Slide the old coil off the cartridge. (Note: If the entire cartridge valve is faulty or leaking, unscrew the cartridge from the valve block, catch any residual hydraulic fluid, and install a new cartridge). Slide the new solenoid coil onto the stem and tighten the retaining nut.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical connector to the solenoid. Lower and secure the cab. Reconnect the negative battery cable.

   Testing

   Turn the key on and clear the inactive fault codes via the instrument cluster display. Start the machine and test the auxiliary hydraulic forward function to ensure the code does not return and the hydraulics operate normally.
