New Holland UCM 5309 – UCM: Boom Float: Float Button Timed Out (30 sec)
Issue description
The Universal Control Module has detected a continuous signal from the boom float button for more than 30 seconds, indicating the button is physically stuck, internally shorted, or there is a short-to-ground in the wiring harness.

Check the cause
Inspect the float button on the right-hand control lever for dirt, mud, or debris that might be physically jamming the button in the depressed position.
Use a multimeter to test the float button switch (Switch S-007) for continuity. It should only show continuity when actively pressed. If it shows continuous continuity when released, the switch/handle has failed.
Inspect the wiring harness (Harness X-403) running from the right-hand joystick down to the UCM for pinched, chafed, or exposed wires that could be causing a short to ground.
Repair steps
Clean the Switch
If the button is simply stuck due to debris, use compressed air and electrical contact cleaner to free the button mechanism.
Replace the Handle
If the switch is internally shorted or physically broken, the joystick handle grip assembly must be replaced. Disconnect the battery, remove the mounting screws/adapters securing the right-hand grip to the pilot control rod, disconnect the electrical connector at the base of the handle, and install the new grip.
Repair Wiring
If the switch tests fine but the code persists, locate the short-to-ground in the wiring harness between the joystick and the UCM and repair the damaged wire.
Clear and Test
Clear the fault codes. Start the machine, push the right joystick forward, and press the float button to verify the bucket float engages. Ensure the float function properly disengages when you curl the bucket or lift the loader arm.
