New Holland UCM 5393 – UCM (Universal Control Module / Utility Control Module): Enhanced High-Flow Auxiliary Option: EHF Pump Solenoid(s) Short to Power

The control module has detected a higher-than-normal voltage on the circuit controlling the Enhanced High-Flow (EHF) pump solenoids / Proportional Relief Valves (PRVs). A Short to Power indicates that the signal or ground wire for the solenoid is improperly making contact with a 12-volt power source, or the solenoid coil itself has failed internally.

   Visual Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness running from the UCM to the EHF pump control PRVs. Look for chafed insulation, melted wires, or pinched harnesses that could cause the solenoid wire to touch a live 12V wire.

   Voltage Check (Harness Isolation): Disconnect the electrical connector at the EHF pump solenoid and the corresponding connector at the UCM. Turn the machine's key switch to the ON position and turn on all other accessories. Use a multimeter to check for voltage at the solenoid signal wire cavity on the harness side. There should be no voltage.

   Component Check: If the harness tests good (no voltage crossover), the short is likely internal to the EHF directional solenoid coil.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes during repair.

   Address the Short (Harness)

   If the harness is faulty: Trace the wire back from the solenoid to the UCM to locate the exact point of the short. Repair the damaged wire using weather-sealed splice connectors, or replace the affected harness section.

   Address the Short (Solenoid)

   If the solenoid is faulty: Locate the EHF Pump Control PRV on the hydraulic control valve block. Disconnect the Deutsche DT series electrical connector. Unthread the faulty solenoid/PRV cartridge from the valve block.

   Install New Component

   Thread the new EHF solenoid into the valve block and torque to OEM specifications. Reconnect the Deutsche DT electrical connector.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the key to the ON position and use a diagnostic tool (such as CNH EST or a compatible DTC Eraser) to clear the UCM 5393 fault code.

   Test Operation

   Start the machine, engage the Enhanced High-Flow auxiliary hydraulics, and verify that the code does not return and the attachments operate correctly.
