New Holland UCM 5409 – UCM (Universal Control Module) / Instrument Cluster: Aux Override Disabled due to Aux Override Button Timed Out (30 sec)

This fault code indicates that the Universal Control Module (UCM) has detected a continuous, uninterrupted signal from the "Aux Override" button on the instrument cluster for more than 30 seconds. To prevent unintended operation of the auxiliary hydraulics and protect the system from a stuck switch, the controller automatically disables the auxiliary override function and logs the 5409 fault.

   Inspect the Aux Override button on the instrument cluster (membrane panel) for physical damage, heavy dirt, sticky residue, or moisture that could cause the button to physically stick in the depressed position.

   Ensure the operator is not inadvertently resting a hand, finger, or object against the button during operation.

   Press and release the Aux Override button. Check for normal tactile feedback (a slight click or pop). If the button feels flat, mushy, or does not spring back, the membrane switch has collapsed.

   If the button feels normal and is clean, cycle the machine's key power (OFF, then ON) to see if the fault clears. If the code remains active immediately upon startup, the switch is likely shorted internally.

   Clean the Panel

   Carefully clean the surface of the instrument cluster around the Aux Override button using a mild electrical contact cleaner or isopropyl alcohol to remove any debris that might be wedging the membrane switch down.

   Retest

   Turn the machine on. Use the instrument cluster display to check if the 5409 code has moved from 'Active' to 'Inactive/Stored'. If it has, clear the code using the Aux Override button (if functional) or the Electronic Service Tool (EST).

   Replace the Instrument Cluster

   The Aux Override button is an integrated membrane switch built directly into the instrument cluster faceplate and cannot be serviced individually. If the switch has failed internally, the entire instrument cluster must be replaced.

   Program New Cluster

   Install the new instrument cluster. Replacement instrument clusters are shipped blank. The machine will not function until the new cluster is programmed and calibrated to the specific machine's configuration using the New Holland Electronic Service Tool (EST) by a certified CNH dealer.

   Clear Codes

   Once programmed, use the EST to clear any residual fault codes and verify the auxiliary override function operates normally.
