UCM 5507

New Holland UCM 5507 – UCM: Auxiliary Valve Spool Sensor - Sensor Short to Ground / Open Circuit

Issue description

This code is triggered when the control module detects that the signal voltage coming from the auxiliary hydraulic valve spool position sensor is either shorted to ground (STG) or the circuit is completely open (OC).

Applies to these machines

  • L213
  • L215
  • L218
  • L220
  • L223
  • L225

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the Auxiliary Wiring harness (connector X-23) for chafed wires, pinched lines, or melted insulation near the hydraulic valve block.

  2. Disconnect the Auxiliary Valve Spool Sensor and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture ingress, or pushed-out terminals.

  3. Test for Open Circuit (OC) by checking for continuity on the signal wire between the sensor connector and the UCM harness connector.

  4. Test for Short to Ground (STG) by checking the sensor signal wire for continuity to the chassis ground.

  5. Verify the sensor is receiving its 5V reference supply and has a clean ground from the UCM.

Repair steps

  1. Park and relieve pressure

Park the machine on a level surface, lower the boom completely, and relieve all hydraulic pressure.

  2. Disconnect battery

Turn off the ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

  3. Access valve assembly

Gain access to the primary Electro-Hydraulic (EH) control valve assembly (usually located under the cab).

  4. Disconnect sensor

Locate the Auxiliary Valve Spool Sensor on the valve block and disconnect its X-23 electrical connector.

  5. Remove sensor

Unthread/remove the faulty spool sensor from the valve body. Have a rag ready, as a small amount of hydraulic fluid may weep from the port.

  6. Install new sensor

Install the new spool sensor and tighten it to the OEM torque specification.

  7. Reconnect and restore power

Reconnect the X-23 harness connector and restore battery power.

  8. Clear fault code

Use an Electronic Service Tool (EST) or the machine's onboard display to clear the UCM 5507 fault code.

  9. Test machine

Start the machine and test the auxiliary hydraulic functions to verify the repair and ensure the code does not return.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Auxiliary Valve Spool Sensor (EH Spool Position Sensor)

The exact part number is highly dependent on the specific machine model, generation (Tier 4A vs Tier 4B), and whether the sensor is sold individually or as a sub-component of the EH control valve assembly. You must provide the machine's exact PIN/Serial Number to a dealer.
