New Holland UCM 5508 – UCM (Universal Control Module): Auxiliary Valve Spool Sensor - Sensor Short to Power
Issue description
The control module has detected an abnormally high voltage on the auxiliary valve spool position sensor circuit, meaning the sensor's signal wire is shorted to a power source.
Applies to these machines
10 machines- L213
- L215
- L218
- L220
- L223
- L225
- L230
- C227
- C232
- C238
Check the cause
Inspect the Auxiliary Wiring harness (X-23) for visible damage, rubbing, or pinched wires that could cause a short circuit to a power source.
Disconnect the auxiliary valve spool sensor and check the connector pins for corrosion, moisture, or damage.
Use a multimeter to test the sensor signal circuit for a short to power. If the wiring harness is intact and no short is found in the lines, the sensor itself has likely failed internally.
Repair steps
Preparation
Park the machine on a level surface, lower the boom and attachments to the ground, relieve all hydraulic pressure, and turn off the engine. Disconnect the negative battery cable (or use the battery quick-disconnect switch if equipped) to prevent electrical shorts during repair.
Access the Valve Block
Tilt the cab or access the loader control valve block (E-H controls) located in the chassis plumbing area.
Locate the Sensor
Identify the auxiliary valve section on the control valve block. The spool position sensor is mounted at the end of the spool assembly, covered by the spool position sensor end cap.
Removal
Disconnect the electrical harness from the sensor. Remove the end cap and extract the faulty spool position sensor.
O-Ring Replacement
Remove and discard the old EH Spool Cap O-ring and EH Spool Passage O-rings.
Installation
Lubricate and install the new O-rings. Install the new spool position sensor and secure the end cap.
Reassembly
Reconnect the electrical harness to the new sensor. Reconnect the battery.
Clear Codes & Test
Use a diagnostic tool or DTC eraser to clear the UCM 5508 code from the module's memory. Start the machine and test the auxiliary hydraulic functions to ensure the code does not return.
