This solenoid valve coil generates the magnetic field that shifts the spool in the gearbox-mounted hydraulic valve. It is the electrical actuator that controls oil flow to the clutch packs or brake bands inside the transmission. When the coil receives a control signal, it pulls the armature, opening or closing the valve port. A failed coil produces no magnetic pull, so the spool remains in its default position and the affected gear or function will not engage. The coil is wound to match the original resistance and current draw, ensuring the control unit sees the correct load. On replacement, verify the connector seals are clean and the mounting bracket is torqued to spec to prevent vibration damage.
