This engine oil filter removes particulate contamination from the engine lubricating oil before it reaches the bearing surfaces and oil galleries. It is mounted on the engine block and receives oil from the pump; clean oil exits the filter to the main oil gallery. A clogged filter element forces the integrated bypass valve to open, sending unfiltered oil through the engine, which accelerates wear on crankshaft and connecting-rod bearings. As an original-manufacturer component, the filter media and bypass-valve cracking pressure are matched to the engine’s oil-flow requirements, so the filter maintains proper pressure regulation across the operating temperature range. On installation, lubricate the gasket face with clean engine oil and tighten the housing to the torque specified for the host engine.
