It carries the radial and axial loads from the rotating chopper drum as it shreds straw exiting the threshing section. The C3 internal clearance allows the bearing to operate at the elevated temperatures typical of chopper applications without binding due to thermal expansion. A worn bearing produces a rumbling noise from the chopper area and can lead to shaft misalignment, which damages the chopper knives and the stationary counter-knife assembly. As an original part, the bearing matches the factory-specified internal clearance and raceway geometry, so it seats correctly in the housing without requiring shimming.
