A worn or damaged ring produces backlash noise and uneven power delivery, which can lead to vibration in the downstream shafting. The ring is machined to match the original gear-set geometry so that tooth contact pattern and preload are maintained without shimming. On reinstall, ensure the mating pinion is correctly aligned and the housing bolts are torqued to specification.
