It sits inside the bore of the header mounting lug, providing a replaceable wear surface for the pivot pin that connects the header to the machine’s mainframe. As the header articulates over uneven ground, the bushing absorbs radial loads and maintains alignment between the pin and the lug bore. A worn bushing causes slop in the pivot joint, leading to misalignment of the gathering auger relative to the feed rolls and accelerated wear on the pin and lug. The original bushing is machined to the same bore tolerance as the header casting, so the pin fits without clearance that would allow hammering and ovalization of the lug. On replacement, inspect the pin for galling and replace the pin if its surface shows scoring.
