It sits in the engine fuel system between the fuel tank and the high-pressure pump, protecting the injectors from abrasive contamination. A clogged filter restricts fuel flow, causing power loss and erratic engine operation under load. The original filter matches the housing seal geometry and bypass-valve cracking pressure specified for the engine, ensuring the filtration loop operates as designed. On replacement, drain any water from the housing and prime the system before starting.
