A clogged element forces the system’s bypass valve open, allowing unfiltered oil to pass and increasing the risk of internal damage to precision-machined surfaces. The manufacturer specifies the element’s pleat geometry and bypass cracking pressure to match the original housing, ensuring the bypass valve seats correctly and opens only when the element is fully loaded. When replacing the element, clean the housing interior and replace the seal ring before torquing the housing cap to specification.
