A clogged filter restricts oil flow, causing the bypass valve to open and send unfiltered oil through the engine, which accelerates wear on bearings and piston rings. The filter is an original component from the engine manufacturer, with a thread and seal-face geometry that matches the filter head bore exactly, ensuring the bypass valve seats correctly and no leakage occurs at the sealing interface. On reinstallation, lightly oil the seal gasket and tighten the filter to the torque specified for the housing.
