This oil seal retains lubricant in the front axle housing and prevents ingress of dirt and moisture into the bearing cavity. It sits at the wheel-end or pinion location, where it seals the rotating shaft against the stationary housing. A worn seal allows lubricant to escape, leading to bearing starvation and eventual axle failure. The seal lip geometry and elastomer compound are matched to the shaft surface finish and operating temperature range of the original assembly. On installation, ensure the sealing lip faces the lubricant side and that the housing bore is clean and free of burrs.
