This oil seal is installed at the rear axle output flange to retain lubricant and exclude contaminants from the wheel-end bearing cavity. It sits between the rotating shaft and the stationary housing, forming a dynamic barrier that prevents gear oil from leaking onto the brake assembly or tire. A worn seal allows oil seepage that can contaminate brake linings and reduce friction effectiveness. Corteco manufactures this seal to match the original housing bore and shaft journal dimensions, so the lip contacts the correct wear surface without the need for additional shimming or sleeve adapters. During installation, ensure the seal is pressed squarely into the bore and that the shaft surface is free of burrs or grooves.
