This central axle bushing acts as the wear interface between the front-axle pivot pin and the axle housing. It maintains the correct radial clearance so the axle can oscillate freely without metal-to-metal contact. A worn bushing introduces play that allows the axle to shift, leading to steering wander and accelerated pin wear. The bushing is machined to match the original housing bore and pin diameter, so no additional shimming is required during installation. On replacement, inspect the pivot pin for scoring and replace if damaged.
