This front axle ball joint connects the steering knuckle to the axle beam, allowing the wheel hub to pivot for steering. It sits at the outer end of the axle assembly, where it transmits lateral and vertical loads from the wheel to the chassis. Wear in the ball joint produces free play that causes imprecise steering and uneven tire wear. The joint is machined to match the taper and thread dimensions of the original assembly, so it seats correctly in the knuckle without additional shimming. On installation, tighten the retaining nut to the specified torque and fit a new cotter pin.
