This steering joint connects the tie rod to the steering arm on the front axle of the host tractor. It transmits steering input from the hydraulic cylinder to the wheel hub, allowing the front wheels to pivot. Wear in the joint creates free play in the steering linkage, which manifests as a wandering steering feel and uneven tire wear. The joint is machined to the same ball-and-socket tolerance as the original assembly, so no shimming is required during installation. On reinstall, torque the retaining nut to specification.
