This left-side chisel point is the replaceable ground-engaging tip for a reversible plow body. It bolts to the plow shin or wing share and takes the initial soil impact, fracturing and lifting the furrow slice ahead of the moldboard. The point is a wear component; as its leading edge and underside abrade, the draft force required to pull the plow increases and the furrow shape becomes inconsistent. Replacing the point at the correct wear limit maintains the plow's set working width and reduces fuel consumption. Because the point mounts with two bolts through pre-drilled holes, it installs without modification to the existing shin. On reinstall, clean the mating face and torque the bolts to the plow manufacturer's specification.
