This left-side moldboard shin is the forward-facing edge of the plow body that first contacts the soil during tillage. It mounts to the moldboard assembly and protects the main body from abrasive wear, reducing the rate of material loss on the plow share and moldboard face. As the leading wear component, a worn shin increases draft force and allows the soil to undercut the moldboard, degrading furrow shape and depth consistency. The shin is drilled for two mounting bolts; on reinstall, confirm the bolts are torqued to the specification for the host plow body.
