It uses a resistance-based measurement principle: a sample is placed in the internal chamber, and the instrument applies a small voltage across the sample to determine its electrical conductivity, which correlates directly with moisture percentage. The device stores pre-calibrated curves for a wide range of crop types, allowing the operator to select the correct crop profile before testing. A reading outside the calibrated range for a given crop indicates the sample is either too dry or too wet for accurate measurement. The meter is powered by a single 9 V battery and includes a cleaning brush to remove dust and chaff from the measurement chamber between samples, which prevents cross-contamination and maintains accuracy.
