This engine oil filter removes contaminants from the lubricating oil before it circulates through the engine bearings and journals. It mounts on the engine block, where it receives oil from the pump and passes it through the filter media before returning it to the main gallery. A clogged filter restricts oil flow, which can cause the bypass valve to open and send unfiltered oil to the engine, accelerating wear on crankshaft and connecting-rod bearings. The filter is manufactured to match the original thread and sealing-surface geometry, ensuring a leak-free seal against the filter head without requiring additional adapters. On installation, lubricate the gasket with clean oil and tighten by hand until the gasket contacts the mounting surface, then give an additional three-quarter turn.
