This engine oil filter removes particulate and combustion byproducts from the engine oil before it passes through the oil galleries to the crankshaft and valve train. It mounts on the engine block at the full-flow oil circuit, where the filter media captures wear debris and carbon particles that would otherwise accelerate bearing and camshaft wear. A clogged filter restricts oil flow, which can cause the bypass valve to open and send unfiltered oil through the engine. The manufacturer constructs the filter with cellulose media that provides the necessary filtration surface area for the engine's oil pump flow rate. On installation, lubricate the gasket face with clean oil and tighten the filter housing to the recommended torque specification.
